Infants can be booked over your property's maximum capacity when your property allows children. An infant is a child under 2 years old. If children are allowed, most booking channels automatically permit at least one infant over capacity. VRBO is the exception, because it counts infants as adults.

Which booking channels allow infants over capacity?

Each booking channel has its own rules for infants. The table below summarizes the policies for each channel.

  • Airbnb: Infants are children under 2 years old, and children are 2 to 12 years old. Infants stay for free when children are allowed at the property. Children aged 2 to 12 are priced the same as adults. Guests can bring up to 5 infants over maximum capacity.
  • Booking.com: Guests can bring 1 infant under 2 years old over capacity.
  • Holidu: Infants under 2 years old stay for free. Everyone else counts as an adult. There is no limit on the number of infants allowed over maximum capacity.
  • VRBO: Infants and children count as adults, so infants cannot be booked over capacity.

Can I change whether infants are allowed over capacity?

No, you cannot change this setting for individual channels. These policies are part of the terms and conditions you agreed to when you listed your property. You also cannot add restrictions about infant overcapacity to your property description.

How can I stop infants from exceeding capacity?

If you do not want infants to exceed capacity, you can set your property to "children not allowed." This is the only available option. To change this setting, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Configuration in the top-left corner of your dashboard.
  2. Open the Amenities section.
  3. Navigate to Children.
  4. Select "Children Not Allowed."

Keep in mind that this change also affects children aged 2 to 12, not only infants.

What happens if I cancel a booking because of an infant over capacity?

If you cancel a booking because an infant exceeds capacity, the cancellation is recorded as a host cancellation. The booking channel may apply penalties to your account. Before you cancel, check the policies above to confirm whether the infant is allowed under the channel's rules.
