Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds a second layer of protection to your Holidu host account. Even if someone learns your password, they cannot log in without a one-time verification code. This guide explains what 2FA is, where to set it up, and how to complete each available method step by step.
What Is 2FA?
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a login process that requires two separate pieces of information. To keep your Holidu account and data secure, Holidu uses 2FA for all hosts who log in with an email and password. Hosts who sign in with social logins such as Google are already protected, because those providers also offer 2FA. 2FA is mandatory for all hosts with published properties.
Logging in with 2FA requires two things:
- First factor: Your email address and password.
- Second factor: A one-time verification code, sent through one of the following methods:
- SMS to your mobile phone
- An authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator or Authy
You can set up multiple methods for backup access. However, each method can be registered only once. For example, you can register one phone number and one authenticator app.
Where to Set Up 2FA
You can set up 2FA from the Security section of your Holidu host account.
- Log in to your Holidu Host Account. You may be prompted to set up 2FA immediately after logging in. If you are not prompted, continue to step 2.
- Open the Profile Picture Menu and select Security.
- Click Configure next to the authentication method you want to activate.
Choose Your 2FA Method
Once you click Configure, you will see the available 2FA methods. Select the method you want to use and follow the steps below.
Method 1: SMS (Mobile Phone)
- Select SMS from the list of authentication methods.
- Enter the phone number you want to use and click Get SMS Code.
- Enter the 6-digit code you receive by text message and click Verify.
- You will see a confirmation message when setup is complete. Your account and data are now secured.
Method 2: Email
- Select Email from the list of authentication methods.
- Confirm the email address where you want to receive your verification code.
- Check your inbox for the 6-digit verification code and enter it on the screen.
- Click Verify. You will see a confirmation message when setup is complete.
Tip: Use an email address that you check regularly and that is protected by its own strong password and 2FA.
Method 3: Authenticator App (Recommended)
An authenticator app is a small program installed on your smartphone or tablet. It generates a new 6-digit security code every 30 seconds, and only you can see those codes. Unlike text messages or emails, an authenticator app works even without an internet connection or mobile signal, because the codes are generated directly on your device.
- Download an authenticator app such as:
- Select Authenticator App from the list of authentication methods.
- Open the authenticator app and scan the QR code displayed on your screen. If scanning does not work, use the manual setup code instead.
- Enter the 6-digit code shown in the app, give the device a name (for example, "My mobile phone"), and click Submit.
- You will see a confirmation message when setup is complete. Your account and data are now secured.
After Setup
From now on, logging in to your Holidu host account requires two steps:
- Enter your password.
- Enter the 6-digit code from your chosen 2FA method.
You can manage your 2FA settings at any time in the Security section of your Holidu host account. There, you can add, update, or remove methods.
Tips for Success
- If you are new to 2FA, start with SMS. It is the fastest and easiest method to set up.
- For the most reliable access, use the authenticator app, since it works without mobile signal or internet.
- Set up at least two different methods in case you lose access to one of them.
- Remember that each method can be registered only once: one phone number, one email address, and one authenticator app.
- Keep your backup codes and recovery details in a safe place.
